Frequent questions

  • What is a doula?

A doula is a person that can make the birth and postpartum experience better.  The doula provides continuous support during the labor and after the childbirth.

  • What is evidence based practice?

Evidence based practice is when we seek to obtain the best information that is available to us in order to make an informed decision.

  • What is the role of the nurse educator?

The nurse plays an important role in educating the client as part of the interdisciplinary team (midwife, doula, doctor) in the pregnancy.  The nurse educator can educate the client on how to empower themselves and learn about managing their pregnancy by learning how to take their prenatal vitamins, medications if any are given, following a diet and exercise program, learning to check their blood sugar or blood pressure.  The nurse educator measures the client’s learning based on return demonstration through the development of a plan of care.

  • What is the role of the doula?

A doula is a professional that is trained in childbirth.  The doula will provide emotional, physical, and educational support to a mother who is expecting a baby, in labor, and after the baby is born.  The doula helps women to have a safe, memorable, and empowering birthing experience with the guidance of the mother’s practitioner (midwife or doctor).

  • What is included in basic doula services?

The basic doula service includes a prenatal visit, labor, delivery and a post-delivery follow-up.

  • Does insurance cover the services of a doula?

Some insurance companies will cover some or all of the cost of a doula, depending on your plan.  Windermere Baby and Family Wellness Center will provide you the insurance forms to submit to your insurance company to seek reimbursement if available from your individual carrier.

  • Can I add other services to my doula service?

Yes other services are available that can be added to the doula service and at the time of the consultation these services can be reviewed and a referral will be provided for them.

  • What is included in my 20 minute phone consult?

This is a phone consult that will allow you to ask any questions not addressed here, discuss your birth plan desire (hospital, birthing center, or home delivery), and what services you would like to explore.  Once our services are retained, then an in person meeting for services can be scheduled.  If you are still considering the services, then an in person consultation can be scheduled for 30 minutes for a fee.  This fee will be credited to the level of service that you select.

  • Can I use the other services that you have without being an expectant mother?

Absolutely we are family friendly so we will offer the other services after you have a baby or even if you are not planning on having any other babies.

  • What is holistic care?

A holistic approach to pregnancy and childbirth is recognizing that women are naturally equipped to conceive, feed, and give birth to a baby. It is the natural progression of pregnancy and labor. We at Windermere Baby and Family Wellness Center encourage expectant moms to start with the most natural way of care as long as your healthcare practitioner is in agreement.
